Workers Rights

Migrante NJ is a proud member of the Protect New Jersey Workers Coalition. As part of this coalition, we are conducting Health & Safety Trainings to workers in New Jersey. The trainings are two hours, online, and available in Pilipino, English, or Spanish.

Are you an essential worker? Do you work in fast food or restaurants? A warehouse? Are you a nanny or a domestic worker? Do you want to be informed about COVID-19 safety in the workplace? Want to improve your working conditions?

Attend a 2-hour paid training for New Jersey workers in the service industry. Trainings will cover the following:

  1. Myths and facts about COVID-19;
  2. How do we reduce risks in the workplace; and
  3. What action steps can workers take to protect themselves or change their conditions in their workplace.

All workers who complete this training will be paid $30. Multiple dates available in November and December and more are being added. Click the button below!

Peace, Land & Bread Food Distribution

Along with our partners Anakbayan North Jersey and Malaya Movement NJ, we are excited to launch a free food distribution program for Filipino families in Jersey City!

Migrant Rights

According to a 2013 Census estimate, there are more than 130,000 Filipinos in NJ with Jersey City being home to the largest Filipino population in Hudson County. They are mostly workers who are experiencing exploitation at their workplace and many are facing uncertainty due to their lack of immigration status. Despite the urgent call for culturally-competent services within the Filipino community, this need has been largely unmet.

Migrante NJ provides education on important immigration topics that concerns the Filipino Community. This can range from Know Your Rights workshops, free legal clinics, summits, or panels.

We also mobilize our community through local campaigns and as well has Philippine-based campaigns. Some of these include:

  • Save Lordess Now (immigrant detainee rights & welfare)
  • Justice for Florida 15 (anti-trafficking campaign)

The National Democratic School

PADEPA (Pambansa Demokratikong Paaralan) or the National Democratic School is the political school established among the ranks of national democratic mass organizations. It continuously implements and studies among the mass members as well as the rest of the community. Some studies include:

  • On the Progressive Movement of Filipinos Abroad
  • Roots of Migration
  • Labor Export Policy
  • Short Course on Philippine Society and Revolution (SCPSR)
  • Current burning issues (Philhealth, Impact of Covid-19, J1)
  • SND: National Democracy and the Labor Movement
